Music Photography & Video Leeds, yorkshire
One of my passions is music photography. I meet and photograph a lot of bands and musicians in my other life as a wedding photographer, which leads to me getting to know musicians pretty well and then invariably, they ask me for head shots or portfolio images.
I’m not a fan of being in the pit at gigs, but I do love back stage stuff… capturing the reality of late nights, greasy food, and crates of beer. I think it’s the gritty realism that appeals to me. And having done several Glastonbury’s with the New York Brass Band, I know that some of my best images and video footage come when they’ve almost forgotten that I’m shooting.
As well as portfolio stuff, some of my clients like me to shoot them in the field (so to speak) to get the essence of what they do. This shoot with DJ GQ was shot at the Leeds Apollo where he was appearing on stage with the lovely Trevor Nelson and Cisco amongst others.
I like to try and capture the vibe of a gig too, because for me, i’m not just shooting portfolio pieces, but rather shooting from a lifestyle photography perspective.
These kinds of jobs invariably mean hanging around in grotty dressing rooms for hours on end and sitting in sweaty clubs… that’s right, band photography is not the least bit glamorous, but I do love it.
The images will be used on DJ GQ’s social media pages, his web page and print media to promote his radio show and live sets.
