GLASTO WITH
THE
New York
Brass Band
What is it about Glastonbury Festival that has a special hold over us all? Is it that one week of being away from the usual rituals of life? Is it the madness of the fields, the endless cider and the dancing? Is it hugs with strangers, walking 90k in ridiculous heat, singing til you’re hoarse, staying out til the sun comes up, or those magical laylines? Who knows… what I do know is that it is different and special every single time.
I am so lucky to be able to go and hang out with all my New York Brass Band family, taking pictures and shooting video of all the crazy antics. This year we played a lot of gigs – no change there! We kicked off backstage at Accoustic bar in the sunshine, then brought the house down in Gaz’s Rocket Lounge as the Glasto party animals started the festival off in style. We got to play with the absolutely brilliant Das Brass and She’s Got Brass in the crowd at Peace Stage whilst we all sweated buckets and the crowd cooled us down with beer. We catapulted t-shirts, danced under twirling umbrellas at T&C, and watched the sun go down at Outside Circus.
Big thanks to the wonderful Haggis at Theatre and Circus, who allowed us to grace his stages once again… big ups to our excellent mates on the Gateway Stage who are all excellent dancers and keep us going even when we’re on gig number 15 of the week and feeling a bit worse for wear! And to Gaz at the Rocket Lounge who puts us all to shame in the fashion department, and of course, to Sir Chris Tofu for letting us onto his stage and balcony! We even squeezed in a last minute spot on Sensation Seekers stage, had a little guest spot with Beans on Toast, and a rather banging Bread and Roses gig too, Throw into the mix some of the boys playing with Dr Brian Cox and D:Ream, and a little parade round the stage with Oh My god it’s the Church, and well, I think we well and truly knocked it out of the park.
So here’s some piccies of the antics. I’ve no idea how we’re all still alive to be honest. Oh Glastonbury….
